2020 The Mallee Root
Vintage Notes
The region enjoyed an early start to the 2020 season, with warmer than average Spring temperatures evolving into the perfect summer growing conditions. Low disease pressure, timely flowering of the native Marri trees to keep the birds at bay and little to no rain meant that winemakers could literally “take their pick” when they wanted.
The fruit was picked for both varietals on the 13th March.
Winemaking Notes
On delivery to the winery, the fruit is hand-plunged in open top fermenters, in small batches. Spending seven days on skins gives the wine good flesh and bright fruit. It is then barrel aged in French oak for 16 months in 13% new French barriques, with a secondary fermentation occurring in the barrel.
The final blend is 57% Cabernet Sauvignon and 43% Malbec.
