VICTORY POINT 2012 THE MALLEE ROOT

The extended period of warm weather and cool nights at the end of summer bring about concentrated red currant flavours mixed with mulberry and blueberry aromas in the red varieties. The natural fruit flavours have time to balance off with seed ripeness.

The totally unirrigated vines have been hand nurtured through the establishing years and are now producing extremely high quality fruit which truly reflects the vintage and site conditions each year. WINEMAKING NOTES

On delivery to the winery the whole bunches are destemed in individual batches to open fermenters. The fruit spent 27 days on skins before being pressed and racked to barrel. French oak barrels were used, 50% of which were new. The wine was aged in barrel for 12 months before extensive blending trials were undertaken to determine the composition for the 2012 vintage. The final blend is made up of 40% Cabernet Franc, 31% Malbec, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon 6% Petit Verdot. The wine was bottled in August, 2013 and sealed with screwcap closures.

TASTING NOTES

Lovely dark red crimson colour leads to lifted aromas of blueberry, mulberry, cherry, black currant/cassis along with subtle oak characters of smoky vanilla, spice and chocolate. The palate is juicy with mixed berry fruit flavours and fleshy texture with balanced fine tannins and a bright crisp finish.

REVIEWS

2012 vintage:

"This is a terrific wine made from Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon with a small dollop of Petit Verdot. Nice aromatic floral and red berry notes. The medium-bodied palate has a lovely balance with fine grained tannins and silky fine oak which doesn't swamp the fruit"

"From Margaret River, this unusual blend (in this order at least) of cabernet franc, malbec and cabernet sauvignon has allowed the winemaker latitude in blending and it shows in this generous middle weight red. It's turbo-charged with juicy red fruit, balanced tannins, understated oak and simply has lashings of drinkability. Can't go wrong with this at your summer barbecues."
